Age Restrictions

The App is intended for users aged 17 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 17. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at [email protected].

COPPA Compliance: This App is not directed to children under 13 years of age and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

1. Automatically Collected Information

Anonymous Authentication Data

  • We use Supabase anonymous authentication to create a unique, anonymous user identifier

  • This identifier does not contain any personally identifiable information

  • Purpose: To save your favorites and shared lists across sessions

Device Information

  • Device type, operating system, and version

  • App version and build number

  • Device identifiers (anonymized)

  • Purpose: Analytics and crash reporting

Usage Analytics (via PostHog)

  • Feature usage (searches, favorites, shared lists)

  • Geographic region (country/state level only)
  • Session replays (anonymized screen recordings to improve user experience)
  • Purpose: Improve app functionality and user experience

Error and Performance Data (via Sentry – when implemented)

  • Purpose: Identify and fix bugs, improve app stability

2. User-Provided Information

Profile Information

  • Nickname (optional – you can remain “Anonymous User”)

  • Purpose: Display name in shared lists for collaborative features

User-Generated Content

  • Favorite baby names

  • Shared lists with collaborators

  • Notes or custom data you add to names

  • Purpose: Core app functionality

Name Generation Requests (processed by OpenAI)

  • Search filters (origin, meaning, gender, starting letter)

  • Purpose: Generate AI-powered name suggestions

  • Important: Your search queries are sent to OpenAI’s API for processing. OpenAI may use this data according to their privacy policy. We do not send any personally identifiable information with these requests.

How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information for:

Supabase (Database and Authentication)

  • Purpose: Anonymous authentication, data storage, real-time synchronization

  • Data Collected: Anonymous user ID, favorites, shared lists, user profiles

PostHog (Product Analytics)

  • Session Replay: Anonymized screen recordings with text inputs masked to help us improve the user experience

OpenAI (AI Name Generation)

  • Purpose: Process search queries to generate baby name suggestions

  • Data Collected: Search filters (origin, meaning, gender, etc.)

  • Data Sharing: Your search queries are sent to OpenAI’s API but do not include personally identifiable information

Sentry (Error Tracking – Future Implementation)

  • Purpose: Crash reporting and error monitoring

  • Data Collected: Error logs, device info, stack traces

  • Data Location: Sentry’s cloud infrastructure

Data Storage and Security

 

Security Measures

  • All data transmission is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS

  • Database access is protected by Row Level Security (RLS) policies

  • Anonymous authentication prevents linking data to real identities

Data Retention

  • Active Accounts: Data retained indefinitely while you continue using the App

  • Inactive Accounts: Data retained for up to 90 days after last activity

  • Deleted Accounts: Data permanently deleted within 30 days of deletion request

Data Location

  • Primary storage: Supabase cloud infrastructure (US)

  • Analytics: PostHog (US cloud infrastructure)

  • AI Processing: OpenAI’s API servers

Your Data Rights (GDPR Compliance)

Right to Access

You can view all your data within the App (favorites, shared lists, profile).

Right to Rectification

You can edit your nickname and shared lists directly in the App.

Right to Erasure (“Right to be Forgotten”)

You can permanently delete all your data by:

  1. Open the App

  2. Go to Settings (Profile tab)

  3. Tap “Delete My Data”

  4. Confirm deletion

This will permanently delete:

  • Your user profile and nickname

  • All favorites

  • All shared lists you created

  • All usage tracking data

  • Your anonymous authentication session

Note: After deletion, you will be signed out and your data cannot be recovered.

Right to Data Portability

To export your data, please contact [email protected]. We will provide your data in JSON format within 30 days.

Right to Object to Processing

Data Sharing and Disclosure

We Do NOT Sell Your Data

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.

We May Share Data With:

  1. Service Providers: Supabase, PostHog, OpenAI, Sentry (as described above)

  2. Legal Compliance: If required by law, court order, or government regulation

  3. Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (users will be notified)

  4. With Your Consent: When you share lists with collaborators (you control this)

Shared Lists

When you create a shared list and share the code with others:

  • Collaborators can see your nickname (if set)

  • Collaborators can see names you add to the shared list

  • Collaborators can add/remove names from the shared list

  • You can leave or delete shared lists at any time

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

The App does not use traditional browser cookies. However, we use:

  • AsyncStorage: Local device storage for app preferences and cached data

  • PostHog Analytics: Automatic event tracking for product improvement

  • Session Tokens: For authentication (stored securely on your device)

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted within the App and on our website (if applicable). Significant changes will be communicated via:

  • In-app notification

  • Email (if you provided contact information)

  • Updated “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy

Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
